Like everyone, I’ve been thinking of Paris all weekend. Such horror in a place that I love, leaves me strangely lost for words. I don’t want to suggest that people “pray for Paris”- from 1572 (google it!) to last Friday, the city has suffered enough because of the unwanted prayers of those with too much faith in their messed up version of their god and not enough in each other.
While I like the solidarity that people are showing by draping their facebook profile picture in the tricolour, this confused guardian-crunching-carrot-hugging liberal was raised to feel uncomfortable with flags.
Instead I will go back to an older symbol which once upon a time, before it was carried by misdirected armies on vengeful crusades, may have felt a just a bit peaceful- here are some lillies or Fleurs-de-lis.
